Written by Joy Lo

On October 25th, 2024, the International Business Management class from the IBMBA programs at NSYSU had the privilege of visiting Cijin Old Street to present their project on University Social Responsibility (USR). This enriching course, led by Professor Fang-Yi Lo, emphasized the importance of promoting local traditional culture in Cijin, a vibrant area known for its rich history and cultural heritage.

Throughout the semester, students engaged in research and community collaboration, exploring various aspects of Cijin’s culture and tourist attractions. They were tasked with developing innovative strategies to help local vendors enhance their international visibility and connect with a broader audience.

During the visit, students presented their projects to local business owners and community members, showcasing creative content that included eye-catching visuals, engaging stories, and practical marketing strategies. Their presentations sparked lively discussions about the potential impact of social media on local businesses and how these platforms could help preserve and promote Cijin’s cultural heritage.

This event not only empowered students to contribute positively to the local community but also fostered a deeper appreciation for Cijin’s unique charm. By introducing Cijin to foreign visitors and encouraging them to explore its attractions, students played a vital role in bridging cultural gaps and promoting sustainable tourism. The collaborative spirit of the event highlighted the importance of community engagement and the vital role that education plays in fostering university social responsibility (USR).

In summary, the visit to Cijin Old Street was a memorable culmination of the students' hard work and creativity. It provided a platform for meaningful interactions between students and the local community, reinforcing the idea that promoting cultural heritage and supporting local businesses can lead to mutual benefits for both residents and visitors.
