Regulations

Regulations on Course Waiver and Credit Substitute for iPhD/GMBA Program

1. These regulations are originally based on the National Sun Yat-sen University Regulations on Course Waiver.

2. Course waiver refers to the case where students can apply to the Registrar to waive the course(s) and credits which they have previously taken (the credits would be fully transferred meaning students would not need to take additional course(s) to make up for the waived credits).  Credit substitute refers to the case where students can apply to the program office to be exempt from taking course(s) they have previously taken, but will still have to make up the equivalent of the credits substituted with other course(s).

3. Every student is entitled to one application for either course waiver or credit substitute.

4. The guidelines for course waiver are as follows:

A. The maximum number of credits waived should not exceed half of the credits required to graduate.

B.
Students can only waive those course(s) that have been offered by the College of Management.

C.
Students can only waive course(s) insofar as the course(s) are based on (1) the same subjects or (2) different subjects but with the same contents.

D.
When there is a discrepancy in the number of credits a course is worth between the NSYSU GMBA program and the student’s original academic institution, the number of credits actually waived will be the lower of the two.

E.
Students can apply for course waiver with course(s) taken at the Masters level with grades above 75 percent, subject to the College’s approval of their applications.

F.
Other exceptional cases will be considered by the program office on an individual basis.

5. The guidelines for credit substitute are as follows:

A. Students can apply for credit substitute with course(s) pertaining to business management subjects; course(s) taken at the undergraduate level with outstanding grades may be eligible for the GMBA credit substitute.

6. Students applying for either course waiver or credit substitute should present (1) official transcript(s) displaying the course(s) relevant to the waiving or substitution application with subject and grade, (2) an official statement issued by the academic institute where the student attended, demonstrating that the course(s) concerned were not included in the graduation requirements of the student’s previous diploma in the case of course waiver, and (3) an application form to the program office.
